Any bonsai experts around?
I have four bonsai currently, a white serissa, cotoneaster, Hokkaido elm, and a gorgeous winding juniper. Because I live in a hostile environment, they live inside in the winter under lights. I generally prefer the shohin and mame bonsai, but the juniper is a few inches taller (kifu). There is really only one area in my home that accommodates the four-foot-long lights, but there isn't much room in terms of height, and the juniper is slightly too tall. It winds in a way so that the very highest portion looks fine out of the fixture. So my question is, what is best for the tree? Can I stay with this arrangement, turning the tree every day so those portions get light every other day? Is the light most important for the trunk and roots? Or equally for the branches? If you would, please me know if I'm okay as is, or if pruning and/or trying to adjust the lights are in my future.
Thanks very much!
Frank thanks ... I'm a long-time customer of BonsaiBoy.
Junipers need to go into dormancy in the winter. This is their rest period so they can rest up for the coming spring and summer.
