Wine & Spirits- Jim Beam Bourbon Throws A Bourbon Tasting Party!

(Pictures by Sandy Zimmerman)

I entered the elevator at the Rio Lodge and was whisked up to the 50th flooring to the Voodoo Steakhouse for a bourbon sipping dinner party. Amidst this excellent view of the town, I met Fred Booker Noe, III, great-grandson of Jim Beam, Grasp distiller emeritus of Jim Beam Manufacturers Company. Fred was "on tour" as Bourbon Ambassador to educate the general public and educate them methods to enjoy bourbon. He wants to let everybody know there's nonetheless a Beam member of the family involved within the business. Fred explained proudly, "I travel around the globe, anywhere bourbon is authorized, we are there!

Our table was set for the bourbon tasting, to sip a sampling of 4 of the best bourbons from Fred's Small Batch Collection, his households' award winning collection of ultra- premium, handcrafted bourbons.

After chatting with several of the guests, all of us sat down to observe Fred demonstrate the correct solution to sip bourbon. Fred's dialogue was blended with a little bit humor, taking us into his world of bourbon production. Fred feels, "Sipping Small Batch Bourbon is like tasting the past. This is bourbon the best way it used to be, the best way it was meant to be."

Why has Jim Beam Bourbon lasted since 1795? Fred answered, "We use only the most effective components money can buy. We do not make bourbon in the present day and sell it tomorrow. It has to age."

Uniquely acknowledged as "America's native spirit," bourbon has been the popular drink of Presidents Harry Truman and Lyndon Johnson in addition to Mark Twain and lots of different dignitaries. Fred has lead an fascinating life rising up around the distillery. He learned easy methods to fish, hunt and make bourbon. As we speak he selects the barrels for the Bookers Bourbon, works as a distiller. As the seventh technology member of the family to be concerned in the distillery he remarked, "It's what we do!"

Jacob Beam was the primary person to open the distillery. He remodeled grain into whiskey to make use of as barter. The early Kentucky farmers were distillers within the 1700's. Jacob closed the distillery during prohibition, lost cash investing in different businesses, however returned after it was repealed. Fred commented, "I'm at all times glad he went again into the enterprise in any other case I have no idea what I'd be doing today!"

I realized loads about bourbon and was entertained by Grasp Mixologist Bobby "G" Gleason. Bobby combined a number of particular cocktails he had created for this evening's event using their Small Batch Collection- Booker's, Baker's, Knob Creek and Basil Hayden's. He made it seem so easy to combine these cocktails! Winner of national and worldwide cocktail competitions, he holds the title for the "World's Most Sensuous Cocktail" and has gained Bartender Journal's New York International Cocktail Competition.

Bobby's motto, ""Drink the best possible spirits you can find, drink what you like, and like what you drink." He says there aren't any guidelines about consuming cocktails. The most unusual cocktail he has ever prepared was with avocado.

Protecting throughout the Voodoo Steakhouse's theme, we were served the Witch Physician Sampler appetizer- Creole crab cake, coconut shrimp, rock shrimp hush puppies, Tasso ham beignet, and buttermilk frog legs. Our second course was the heirloom beefsteak tomato salad, followed by the entr©e- Voodoo Menage Et Trois: half lobster tail, 6 ounce filet mignon, and grilled Mexican white prawns. Then we enjoyed a medley of Voodoo signature desserts. I've to say, "What a meal, what a clean bourbon!!"

In case you are in Kentucky, visit the Jim Beam Distillery. They provide a self- guided tour at their Visitor's Middle the place you can too pattern a couple of bourbons.
